(PRWEB) October 30, 2009 — A new clinical study led by Ohio plastic surgeon Paul Vanek, MD, shows that VASER liposuction produces a 53% improvement in skin-tightening and 26% less blood loss than traditional liposuction. These findings were presented on Oct. 26 at the 78th annual meeting of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.

“Traditional liposuction is good at removing unwanted fat, but it sometimes can result in a loose-skin look,” says Oak Brook, Ill. board-certified plastic surgeon Allan Parungao, MD, of Face and Body Plastic Surgery, PC. “This is less much likely to happen with VASER lipo because it uses ultrasonic energy to melt the fat—and this energy also tightens up the skin after the fat is removed.”

“VASER lipo is less traumatic on the fat than traditional liposuction,” says board-certified plastic surgeon Ricardo Izquierdo, MD. “Melting the unwanted fat is much gentler than breaking it up with vigorous back-and-forth motions using an instrument called a cannula, as is done in traditional liposuction. The VASER technique affects the blood vessels less than traditional liposuction and produces less blood loss during surgery.”
