Is your complexion ready for summer?
Want smoother, younger-looking skin in time for summer? Now is the perfect time for microdermabrasion.

“At certain times of the year, my face tends to break out,” says Erica, age 29. “I wanted to freshen up my skin for spring and get rid of old acne scars. A friend told me about microdermabrasion.“

Microdermabrasion: Safe for all skin types
“Erica was a perfect candidate for microdermabrasion, as she has oilier skin,” says Jackie Baumann, certified laser technician. “This lunchtime treatment can shrink pores, reduce acne breakouts, balance the skin’s oil production and improve skin tone.

“Microdermabrasion is safe even for patients with sensitive skin,” Baumann explains. “A treatment, which takes 25-30 minutes, begins by cleansing and drying the skin. Microdermabrasion is done with a hand-held piece that has two tubes:
  • The first tube distributes tiny aluminum oxide crystals that gently buff and polish the skin.

  • The second tube vacuums up the crystals along with dead skin cells, leaving the skin noticeably smoother.
“Finally, the face is cleansed again and a protective sunblock cream is applied, as the skin is more sensitive to the sun after a treatment,” says Baumann.
‘People noticed!’
“The first time I had microdermabrasion, I was really impressed with the overall results,” Erica recalls. “It replenished my skin and took away the spots I had from old acne.

“It was very refreshing and my skin felt so smooth the day of treatment. Then, as the skin started to replenish, I could see a little bit of peeling. Three or four days after the procedure, I really started seeing the difference in my skin.

“I've already gotten a few compliments,” Erica says. “I had a treatment last week, and people have asked me what I've done for my skin. It really feels good to have somebody notice!

Now, the second week after treatment, I can still feel a little bit of the skin coming off from the old acne scars. My skin is renewing.”

Ask Dr. Parungao
How can I get rid of the dark, blotchy skin on my face?
You may have a skin condition called melasma, which affects up to three out of every four women at some time in their lives. There is no cure for melasma, but microdermabrasion, IPL photofacials and a prescription cream called Tri-Luma® can significantly improve melasma.

The FDA has approved Tri-Luma® cream for treating melasma. We have Tri-Luma® available at our Oak Park office for less than you would pay at the drugstore. Patients report seeing results in as little as four weeks.
