Think breast implants can't look natural? Think again
Have you been wishing for larger, fuller breasts—but thought that implants would look unnatural? As with any plastic surgery, getting the natural-looking results you want from breast augmentation depends on your surgeon's skill—and on how well he or she understands your goals for improving your appearance.

What’s right for you?
Your personal consultation with Dr. Parungao is an opportunity for you to ask questions and share your thoughts about the plastic surgery you're considering.
“Last week, a 62-year-old woman came in for a breast enhancement consultation,” he recalls. “Her first question was, ‘Am I too old for this?’ I told her that her age is not as important as her health and her state of mind.
“Whether you're 22 or 62, breast enhancement can help your body look more proportional, improve your self-esteem and make your clothes fit better,” Dr. Parungao explains.
Breast enhancement involves many choices
To help you achieve the results you desire, Dr. Parungao will ask you questions about how you want to improve your breasts.
  • Are you looking for more cleavage? “Low-profile breast implants (wider in diameter than high- or medium-profile implants of the same size) produce more cleavage,” he says.
  • Do you need to correct breast sagging? “If so, I can combine breast augmentation with a breast lift,” Dr. Parungao explains.
  • Do you prefer silicone gel or saline implants?
  • What size implant do you prefer? Breast implants come in many sizes. Dr. Parungao will recommend a range of sizes in proportion to your body, and let you “try on” implants of various sizes to help you decide what's best for you.
  • Do you want to maximize projection from the chest wall? “High-profile implants are ‘taller’ than moderate or low-profile implants of the same size,” Dr. Parungao explains. “This creates more forward projection from the chest.”
‘I feel more womanly now’
Like many moms, “Lisa” saw her breasts lose volume after pregnancy and nursing. “I went from a 34C before my kids to a 34B,” she says. Recently, Lisa got silicone gel breast implants and is now a 34D. “My breasts look and feel very natural and they're in good proportion with my body,” she says. “I feel really good!”

This patient wanted more breast fullness and cleavage with a natural look. She went from a B cup to a D cup with 475cc (cubic-centimeter) low-profile saline implants, inserted above the chest muscle through an incision in the crease below the breasts.

Ask Dr. Parungao
Does the type of implant I choose determine the kind of bras I need to wear after breast implant surgery?
Most women with breast implants can wear normal bras. However, women who choose high-profile implants—those that maximize the projection from the chest wall without increasing width—have found that a special type of bra called LeMystère No. 9 complements the shape of their augmented breasts and fits more comfortably.
