Our patient, “Cindy,” had been declining anesthetic when she got her Juvéderm treatments. We asked her to try Juvéderm XC on one side of her face, and her usual Juvéderm treatment on the other. Here's what she had to say.
‘I like Juvéderm XC much better!’
“Juvéderm XC is much less painful,” says Cindy. “In the past, I didn't want any anesthetic because I figured it was easier not to get another set of shots—and I didn't want my face to be numb for a long time, like when you go to the dentist.
“We treated the area under my eyes, the ‘parentheses’ from my nose the corners of my mouth, and the ‘marionette lines’ from my mouth to my chin. Without anesthetic, I felt the needle stick, a burning sensation and the pressure of the filler going in.

Should I stop taking any medications before having a facial filler or Botox treatment?
Yes. For 10 days before having a Juvéderm, Radiesse or Botox Cosmetic treatment, I recommend that you refrain from taking medications such as aspirin or ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin) that thin the blood. If you are on any prescription blood thinners such as Coumadin (warfarin), you need to check with your primary care physician before stopping that medication.
Refraining from using blood-thinning medications will greatly reduce your chances of bruising after a facial injectable treatment.
