Research proves women's skin ages
faster than men's
If you think women are more prone to facial wrinkles than men, you're right. A new study published in the November/ December, 2009 issue of Aesthetic Surgery Journal finds that gender-specific differences in the skin surrounding the mouth account for more and deeper skin wrinkling in women than in men.
What causes these differences between men's and women's facial skin? The researchers point to three contributing factors:
  • The skin around women's mouths has fewer sweat glands and oil glands than that of men.
  • There are fewer blood vessels in the skin around women's mouths.
  • In women, the closer attachment of muscle fibers around the mouth to the deeper layers of the skin may cause inward pressure, leading to deeper wrinkles.

I really want liposuction, but I have diabetes. Can I still have plastic surgery?
Diabetes does raise special concerns when you are considering surgery—such as the potential for slower wound healing. However, many diabetic patients whose blood sugar is under control have had successful plastic surgery. If you have diabetes and want plastic surgery, I will work closely with your primary care physician to ensure that you are a good surgical candidate.
