Did you know Botox can give your face a lift?
Allan J. Parungao, MD, FACS You probably know that Botox can relax the muscles that cause the “11” between your eyebrows and the crow's feet around your eyes. But in Dr. Parungao's hands, Botox— alone or in combination with facial fillers like Juvéderm or Restylane—can do much more to rejuvenate your face, without surgery or downtime.

How does Botox work?
“Every muscle in your face has an opposing muscle,” Dr. Parungao explains. “I use Botox to quiet specific muscles that create a downward pull.”
Want a non-surgical brow lift?
“Not many people know that just a tiny bit of Botox can lift the outer edge of your eyebrows,” says Dr. Parungao. “This technique raises the ‘tail’ of the eyebrow about two millimeters, which gives a very nice, feminine effect.”
Have ‘worry lines’ on your forehead?
“Botox is very useful for treating horizontal forehead wrinkles that men and women get from raising their eyebrows,” Dr. Parungao adds.
Are the corners of your mouth turning down?
“People can develop a sad look when the muscles at the corners of the mouth begin to droop,” says Dr. Parungao. “I use Botox to relax the depressor anguli oris muscle that pulls down the corners of the mouth.”
Botox + fillers correct ‘marionette lines’
“For every woman who comes in and says, ‘I have a sad look,’ there are 10 who say, ‘I have these “marionette lines” that I want filled in,’” says Dr. Parungao. “I get more requests for facial fillers than for Botox in the mouth-to-chin region.” But when it comes to treating marionette lines, using Botox and facial fillers together can give a better result than using fillers alone.
“Fillers smooth out the marionette lines, and Botox at the corners of the mouth relaxes the frown muscles that cause marionette lines,” Dr. Parungao explains. “Botox can also help the filler last longer by reducing muscle action.”

‘People ask “How do you look so young?”’
When Julie, an energetic 55-year-old, started to notice early signs of facial aging, she came to Dr. Parungao. “Dr. P used Botox to lift the outer corners of my eyebrows and to relax the worry lines on my forehead,” she says. “Now I look very well-rested.

Can Botox treat acne and oily skin?
Yes. An innovative technique called intradermal Botox has been developed to quiet the oil glands that cause acne and refine the skin by reducing pore size. This can also smooth out acne scars.
This new approach involves injecting Botox into the skin itself, rather than into the facial muscles as is done to treat wrinkles.
