Has gravity taken a toll on your breasts?
Have you been wishing for fuller, more uplifted breasts? You're not alone. “I was unhappy with everything about my breasts,” recalls Kim, age 44. “My tissue was very flimsy, I was saggy and my areolas were absolutely huge in proportion to my breast size. I was very self-conscious about that.
“I'd been wanting to have cosmetic breast surgery for 20 years,” Kim admits. “Four years ago, I had a consultation with a plastic surgeon in Springfield, where I live, and she told me frankly, ‘You were dealt a bad hand’—and she was right.”
Recently, Kim traveled to Chicago for a consultation with Dr. Parungao and decided to go ahead with cosmetic breast surgery.

Augmentation mastopexy combines breast lift, implants
Kim was a perfect candidate for augmentation mastopexy, a procedure that combines a breast lift to elevate the breasts and reduce the size of the areolas, and breast augmentation to enhance their volume,” Dr. Parungao explains.
“In Kim's case, her breasts weren't as saggy as she thought, but their proportion was off,” he adds. “Her large areolas made it look like her breasts were drooping more than they actually were.”
‘I wanted a very natural look—and I got it’
“During my consultation, I tried on different sizes of implants while wearing a sports bra,” she recalls. “Dr. Parungao thoroughly explained the difference in the shapes of high-, medium- and low-profile implants in proportion to my body.
“I told Dr. Parungao I wanted a very natural look,” Kim adds. “I didn't want to look like I was carrying balloons around.” Kim went from a 34C to a 34D with medium-profile silicone gel breast implants.
“Dr. Parungao told me all about the procedure, from the anesthesia to the recovery to the healing time,” Kim adds. “I wanted to know how soon I'd be able to run and do my athletic activities. I'm a runner and my husband and I lift weights in our home gym.”
‘I can't even tell you how happy I am!’
Kim had surgery on April 23 and is delighted with her results. “I can wear lower-cut blouses without feeling self-conscious,” she says. “Bathing suits feel completely different now—before, I always had to have an underwire to hold myself. Now everything feels better. I would do it again in a heartbeat!
“My husband is thrilled,” Kim adds. “He'd always told me, ‘I love you the way you are,’ but he knew I wanted the surgery and he totally backed me in my decision. Now he loves the results!”

Breast lift surgery involves an anchor-shaped incision that circles the areola, extends vertically to the crease beneath the breasts and continues horizontally along the crease under the breasts, where breast implants can be inserted.

Ask Dr. Parungao
I'm a 34B, but my breasts really sag. Is breast lift surgery only for large-breasted women?
No. Breasts of any size can be lifted. In fact, the results of breast lift surgery are longer-lasting in women whose breasts are smaller and lighter.
Larger-breasted women experiencing sagging may be candidates for breast reduction surgery, or reduction mastopexy.
